Burglary case payment cards increased significantly in October 2011.

 Burglary case (fraud) funds through the payment card (Payment Card / APMK) increased significantly in October 2011.

Bank Indonesia (BI) records based on recent data or during 1954 occurred in October 2011 APMK fraud cases with a value of losses reached USD 3.08 billion. This figure is a record high for the year 2011.



"Fraud using credit and ATM cards and debit cards earlier this month continued the trend in which recorded 1778 cases, although in August 2011 the fund reached its lowest level break-ins throughout 2011, the 1094 case," explained BI detikFinance quoted in publications such as the Payment System on Monday (2 / 1 / 2011).

BI revealed a total during the period January to October 2011 there has been 15 997 cases of burglary of customer funds with a value of Rp 30.61 billion. The number of cases is still below that occurred during 2010 that 18,122 cases with a value of Rp 55.22 billion.

The central bank noted there are 11 modus operandi in the payment card fraud, al card theft, using false data when making a payment card and double the cards by stealing customer data.

Fraudulent Applications / FA
Fraudulent application is a type of fraud is carried out or the breaker Fraudster who posed as prospective cardholders by providing false identification data at the time of submission of the application form whether the card's credit card, ATM, and Debit.

Account Takeover
Fraud of this type carried out by the Fraudster by changing the card owner's identity as the address listed on the card that has gone before

Unauthorized Use of Account Numbers
Fraudster use a card that was not hers to make purchases through the transaction mechanism that does not require the existence of the card (card not present) and the transaction is online. Fraudster usually only require a complete identity of the cardholder. Shopping transactions will be billed to the owner of a valid card or account, while the products / services that have been purchased through the online facility is received by the Fraudster. As a result the owners charged cards payment obligations had never done before by the card owner.

Counterfeit Cards and Skimming
Counterfeit cards and skimming is a type of fraud the most common. The mechanism is more sophisticated than other types of fraud. Fraud of this type usually occurs on the card that still use magnetic stripe as data storage.

When we shop and transact using debit cards, we will give the card to be swiped in machines called Electronic Data Capture (EDC) by the cashier. EDC is a machine that works to capture the card owner's identity data and transactions are done for the card and then printed into another (fake) for use as the original card.

ATM Scams
Mechanism of fraud is often found in places where the ATM machine installed. Usually in public places that are less stringent preservation and in a quiet environment. ATM machines mounted recorder or similar device camera that can record the PIN number entered by the cardholder. The mechanisms are different. Some are done by entering the data recording device in the slot where the card is inserted and installed hidden cameras to record the PIN input by the card owner.

Items Not Received (NRI)
Did you ever apply for a credit card but that card tridak've got to yours? It could be the card on your behalf has been fraud. Fraud that may occur and are known by the term Items Not Received (NRI).

Fraudster could be the insider and outsider who get information about sending a card. In anticipation of this fraud, the organizers APMK has run a series of System Operation Procedure (SOP) that within 30 days when the card is not accepted by the owner of the card, the account on the card is automatically blocked by the organizers to publish.

Identity Theft
Fraud of this type is one of the most prevalent mode today. With a little information card owner's identity, Fraudster is able to perform a number of crimes mode either fraud or theft, such as opening a bank account and issue a blank check, open credit card accounts and is not responsible complete its obligations and so forth.
